Tour of ALZhIR (Akmolinsk Camp for Wives of Traitors to the Motherland)

Tour Program:
To begin the tour, you will travel to the village of Akmol (30 km from the city of Nur-Sultan). The tour starts with a visit to the museum. The museum is designed in the shape of a burial mound (kurgan). The museum's exhibition spans two floors. You will learn about the history of Kazakhstan during the Soviet period, as well as the complete history of the camp itself.

Next, you will walk through the complex grounds and see the memorial objects located within the Museum and Memorial Complex. During your visit, you will be able to see the "Stalinist Railcar," used for transporting exiles and convicts, and the "Arch of Sorrow" monument, symbolizing the entrance to the sacred ground.

The compositions "Despair and Powerlessness" and "Struggle and Hope," whose names speak for themselves, help visitors to comprehend the strong spirit of the unbroken women. The names of seven thousand women who endured torment and mourning were inscribed on the Wall of Memory, and the "Alash" Park, where prisoners grew fruit, still has a certain icy atmosphere passing through it.

At the end of the tour, return to the city.
