Banknotes and coins
The national currency of Kazakhstan is the tenge (₸). Banknotes of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000 and 20,000 tenge are in circulation, as well as coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 tenge.
Currency exchange
You can exchange dollars, euros and other currencies at banks, exchange offices and at the airport. The rate is usually roughly the same, but in the city center the exchange may be a little more favorable.

Bank cards
In most places in Astana international bank cards are accepted. ATMs are located throughout the city — in shopping centers, hotels and on the streets.
Cashless payment
Astana is a modern city where you can pay by card or phone almost everywhere.
Contactless cards are accepted for payment, and contactless payment is also available:
- Apple Pay
- Google Pay
- Samsung Pay
Tip: for small purchases, as well as at markets and bazaars, it is better to have some cash.
