Excursion to ALZHIR — a touching story of women’s resilience.
In the village of Akmol, you will visit the memorial museum of the former ALZHIR camp — the Akmol Women’s Camp for Wives of Traitors to the Motherland. Here were held the wives of repressed “enemies of the people,” who endured suffering and hardship.

What to expect:

• An immersive experience into history — see a Stalin-era railway carriage, a watchtower, barbed wire, and the barrack where the prisoners lived.

• Visit the modern cone-shaped museum building, featuring exhibitions that tell the stories of the female prisoners.

• Finally, watch the documentary film “The Bitter Cold of ALZHIR.”
